Peter Jacobsson took on his new role as business coach at Umeå Biotech Incubator at the beginning of May 2017. That makes him the fourth coach at the specialized life science incubator in Umeå. Bringing onboard comopetence from both pharmaceutical production, project management and quality control he strengthens the coaching services provided to early cases and startups.
SpinChem AB – the successful Umeå University spinoff company – announced last week that they have launched a collaboration with Purolite Life Sciences. Together they have released a range of novel products for biocatalysis in a totally new bioreaction concept that consist of cartridges into the innovative SpinChem® rotating bed reactor (RBR) systems. On the 24th of march 2017, Umeå Biotech Incubator hosted a public Open House event to showcase the improved design of the refurbished facilities and rental spaces for startups. Top attractions included hands-on demos from both Brain Stimulation and SpinChem and a challenging quiz walk with an impressive high score list.
On march 6th and 7th Umeå had a prominent visitor from Silicon Valley – the internationally acclaimed pitch coach Nathan Gold. One day was set aside for an exclusive pitch-workshop with startups – the other was a meta-session where the coaches got a brush-up of their own coaching skills – a rather unusual service.
The 14 and 15th of February, Umeå Biotech Incubator organised an Early Drug Development course open to both in-house projects and academics. 20 participants attended, 100 percent would recommend the course, and 90 percent evaluated the content as “very informative”.
Despite the name, the Biotech Umeå Investment Day is not only about raising money and not only strict biotech anymore. This year’s event had a fair representation of innovations from ICT, digital health and chemical. And it seems that the investors are also widening their scope and contributing with more value than just capital to upcoming startups.
The eight consecutive Biotech Umeå Investment Day attracted almost 30 Swedish and international investors to Blasierummet at Grand Hotel on the 2 of February 2017 in Stockholm.
