SpinChem named University Spin-Off of the Year
SpinChem triumphed at the Umeå Gala on Thursday, clinching the ‘University Spin-Off of the Year’ award.

The “Beat-PFAS” project aims to develop an effective solution for removing and destroying PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) from contaminated soil and water. The Umeå based company SpinChem AB is set to play a crucial role in this initiative, funded by Formas, a Swedish government research council dedicated to sustainable development, with a grant of SEK 19.9 million.
Life science companies have been awarded several times at the local business gala, Umeågalan. 2023 is no exception. Three life science companies are nominated as finalists in four different prize categories.
The former CEO of chemical industry giant Perstorp Martin Lundin has been appointed Chairman of the Board for Umeå-based Spinchem AB.

The Umeå company Spinchem shares about 40 million SEK in an international research project funded by the European Union.
”This is good timing for SpinChem since our strategy is to create new environmentally friendly, bio-based processes for industry,” says Emil Byström, CEO of Spinchem.
Umeå company Spinchem wins a multi-million deal with the listed Canadian company SNC-Lavalin. Spinchem will supply a so-called Rotating Bed Reactor that will be used to clean process water from the nuclear power industry.

SpinChem AB – the successful Umeå University spinoff company – announced last week that they have launched a collaboration with Purolite Life Sciences. Together they have released a range of novel products for biocatalysis in a totally new bioreaction concept that consist of cartridges into the innovative SpinChem® rotating bed reactor (RBR) systems. This new Product segment is being launched at the BNCM conference in Rostock, Germany on May 9th 2017.
On the 24th of march 2017, Umeå Biotech Incubator hosted a public Open House event to showcase the improved design of the refurbished facilities and rental spaces for startups. Top attractions included hands-on demos from both Brain Stimulation and SpinChem and a challenging quiz walk with an impressive high score list.
Despite the name, the Biotech Umeå Investment Day is not only about raising money and not only strict biotech anymore. This year’s event had a fair representation of innovations from ICT, digital health and chemical. And it seems that the investors are also widening their scope and contributing with more value than just capital to upcoming startups.
