Jennie Ekbeck, CEO of Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI), has been nominated for the prestigious Nordic Startup Awards in the ‘Ecosystem Hero of the Year’ category.

A new and different Facebook group is enabling companies in the Umeå region to buy and sell second-hand laboratory equipment, as well as gain access to cheaper lab services.
“Umeå University, the County Council and a number of life science companies in Umeå are often in need of a laboratory, but new equipment is expensive and requires a great deal of knowledge to operate. This new Facebook group allows Umeå companies to sustainably support each other,” says Jennie Ekbeck, CEO of Umeå Biotech Incubator.
Publicly listed Diamyd Medical is to open a new vaccine manufacturing facility in Umeå.

When Umeå’s big business gala was held on November 7, three of twelve awards went to life science.

Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI) has been named the only incubator in the Nordic region to once again be granted funding from the prestigious Erling Persson Family Foundation.
UBI is being granted SEK 10 million between 2020-2022 to help researchers commercialise their ideas for the greater benefit of society.

A new report has busted many of the myths surrounding super entrepreneurs, claiming they do not generally have higher IQs than the average person and are not necessarily driven by revenge following a troubled childhood.
The report, compiled by the Stockholm-based Sting incubator together with Umeå Biotech Incubator and researchers from Karolinska Institutet also discovered several important abilities that characterise successful entrepreneurs.
