Urban Eriksson has been appointed as the new Chairman of the board for Umeå Biotech Incubator.

As the CEO of SLU Holding, Urban Eriksson brings 30 years of leadership experience, including roles in the forestry sector. He joined the board of Umeå Biotech Incubator in 2023 and was elected chairman at the 2024 annual meeting.

“It’s an exciting and important mission in a field with tremendous potential but also significant challenges,” says Urban Eriksson.

He has a broad background in the innovation ecosystem and incubator environment. SLU Holding focuses on utilizing knowledge and research from SLU, and Urban serves on several boards, including Uminova Innovation, eXpression Umeå, and Uppsala Innovation Center.

“Turning high-potential research into practical applications is crucial for a sustainable society. This is especially true in life sciences, where the gap between research results and real-world implementation is often long, complicated, and requires significant capital. An excellent incubator like UBI plays a key role in this process.”

Founded in 2003 by Professor Tor Ny, UBI was recognized in spring 2024 as one of Europe’s leading start-up hubs by Financial Times and the statistics company Statista. Umeå Biotech Incubator is a subsidiary of Umeå University Holding AB, with Umeå Kommunföretag AB and Region Västerbotten as additional shareholders.
