Periodontitis, or gum disease, is both painful and socially stigmatizing. Anders Johansson and his team identified a plant extract with the ability to neutralize the A. actinomycetemcomitans leucotoxin as a possible solution for a new treatment.

During the work on this case, the applications of the scientific findings were adjusted to market need and future potential. Eventueally, the orginal idea was developed into a wider approach with somewhat altered focus and resulted in the establishment of the company Gobroxia AB.

For how many years did you work with the incubator team?

“For four years.”

What happened to your idea in the end?

“Today the idea has been further developed and a company called Gobroxia AB has been set up.”

What did you most appreciate about the incubator environment?

What I appreciated most was the opportunity to bounce ideas and questions about patents and the market, and the fact that our business coach was engaged in the scientific part of the innovation.”

What learnings have you taken with you from your journey in the incubator?

“That science is one thing and business development another. I believe that few academics should venture into the world of business.”

What would you say to others wanting to utilise a research idea?

“Get help from knowledgeable, experienced people.”
