The UBI Alumni MetaCurUm AB has been awarded 1 million SEK in the second phase of Vinnova’s initiative “Acceleration of Deep Tech Companies”. The support will enable MetaCurUm to progress its innovative cancer therapy toward preclinical and future clinical studies.
A research team from Umeå and Uppsala university led by Maréne Landström, founder of UBI-supported MetaCurUm Biotech, has identified a panel of seven blood-based protein biomarkers that can accurately detect clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the most common and aggressive form of kidney cancer.
MetaCurUm Biotech AB has been awarded one million SEK from the Swedish Innovation Agency, Vinnova, under the “Acceleration of Deeptech Companies 2024” initiative.
“This support is crucial for us as it brings us closer to securing additional funding that will help us advance to clinical trials,” says CEO Maarten de Château.
Maréne Landström, a professor of pathology at Umeå University, was named Sweden’s Cancer Researcher of the Year for 2024. Her groundbreaking research is currently being developed into a cancer treatment by the company MetaCurUm Biotech AB, which is gearing up to raise new capital for its next phase.
“MetaCurUm is aiming to secure around 100 million SEK, with substantial interest already shown by institutional investors in Sweden and Europe”, says, CEO Maarten de Château.
MetaCurUm Biotech has won an innovation competition announced by Groth & Co. The price is an IPR consultation worth SEK 75,000.

The Umeå-based company MetaCurUm Biotech AB has appointed a new CEO. Lotta Berg officially started her new position in the company in October.
