PDF: Call for Applications – Pre-Incubator Funding for critical experiments in Life science
This pre-incubator funding call is intended to support researchers who are looking to carry out a critical experiment necessary for further development of a life science-based innovation or concept.
A total of up to SEK 300,000 will be granted in this call. The funding is expected to cover costs related to performing a pivotal experiment that may validate or de-risk a research-based idea with innovative potential.
Eligibility
This call is open to researchers affiliated with Umeå University and SLU Umeå who are working within the Life Science field.
Application Requirements
The application must be written in English and include the following components:
1. Background
A brief description of the scientific context within the life science field, and the origin of the idea or concept.
2. Description of the Proposed Experiment
Clearly state the goal of the experiment, what will be done, and how critical it is to the further development of your idea.
3. Who Will Perform the Work
Describe the individual(s) or team responsible for conducting the experiment, including their roles and relevant expertise.
4. Expected Results and Impact
Outline what outcomes you expect, and how they may advance your idea toward further development, utilization and/or commercialization.
5. Budget and timeline
Provide a cost breakdown and a timeline of how the requested funds will be used. Only direct costs related to the experiment will be considered.
6. Motivation and Future development
Argue why this funding should be awarded to your project. What makes the proposed experiment a key step forward?

Deadline for submission: August 30th 2025
Application size: Max 2500 words or max 5 pages, single spaced and 12-point font size.

• Scientific relevance and innovation potential
