Umeå-based Nil Medical was one of eleven Nordic HealthTech companies chosen for the Propel International Boot Camp – an accelerator programme in the Yorkshire and Humber region of the United Kingdom. The boot camp was designed to provide a faster route into the UK market and offer expert support on the British healthcare system, legal frameworks, funding, networking and market growth.

The four‑day programme was led by Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber and focused on regulation, procurement, pilot studies, and clinical validation.

“Participants gain access to subject‑matter experts and work directly with local stakeholders in the UK healthcare system as well as the wider HealthTech ecosystem across the region,” said Neville Young, Director of Enterprise and Innovation at Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber, in digitalhealth.net.

UBI-supported Nil Medical has developed the Nil Medical Vestpack. This patented and CE‑marked infusion vest enables children undergoing treatment for cancer and other severe illnesses to remain active and play during ongoing treatment. The vest protects the infusion system – including fluids, pumps, and tubing – inside the garment and is already well-established on the Swedish market, where it has been evaluated in a national quality-of-life study.

Deepened understanding of the UK market
In 2025, Barncancerfonden Impact Invest became a shareholder in Nil Medical to support the company’s continued development and expansion.

“Our primary focus remains on launching in Sweden and the Nordic region, but we are also seeing significant international interest. Being allowed to take part in the Propel International Boot Camp was a golden chance for us to deepen our understanding of the UK market – and perhaps a first step toward establishing a presence in the United Kingdom,” says Malin Walfridsson, COO at Nil Medical, who receives business support from Umeå Biotech Incubator and is based in its facilities.

“Alongside the boot camp, I also had the privilege of visiting Leeds Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital to discuss the Nil Medical Vestpack and how freedom of movement during treatment brings value to the children, their families, and the clinic.”
