Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI) has strengthened its board with the appointment of respected business profiles Anette Nordvall, named Sweden’s most powerful tech investor by DI Digital, and Camilla Huse Bondesson, who has extensive experience of marketing, sales and business development in the life science industry.
“We have been focused on finding people who can contribute with business acumen and an investor perspective so that we continue building a world-class incubator”, says Jennie Ekbeck, CEO of Umeå Biotech Incubator.

UBI is an incubator that assists life science startups with business support, financing and laboratory and office space. Two new seats on the board are now being created to bring in external expertise.

“We wanted to bring in additional industry expertise to make our incubator even stronger. We are already ranked one of Europe’s 15 best incubators within life science – but we want to be the best”, says Jennie Ekbeck, CEO of Umeå Biotech Incubator.

The new board members are Anette Nordvall and Camilla Huse Bondesson. Anette Nordvall is one of Sweden’s most powerful tech investors and has international experience in building thriving deep tech companies. She is the CEO of Keiretsu Forum Nordics, the world’s largest investor network for private investors. She is herself an active investor and has made several investments in the life science sector.

“I am not the kind of person who knows everything about mirror-inverted fission, but I do know how important it is to invest early in all forms of innovation. It can affect and influence the entire world in the future. I have a genuine interest in encouraging more investment from private individuals and in meeting and following the progress of innovative companies throughout Sweden,” says Anette Nordvall.

Camilla Huse Bondesson has over 30 years experience working with sales, marketing and business development in various types of life science companies. She has worked in large international companies, helped build companies from the ground up and launched products in international markets.

“Over the years I have established a large network and have experience of working for the Uppsala BIO science cluster and as a business coach in the Uppsala incubator UIC. I have also had the pleasure of carrying out consultancy work for a few Umeå-based companies, when I was able to demonstrate who I am and what I can contribute. I have extensive business experience which I am happy to share,” says Camilla Huse Bondesson, and continues:

“I have personal experience of working in a small company, securing financing, making tough choices and working towards commercial goals. I believe my operational and customer-oriented experience is an asset for an incubator board”.

Umeå Biotech Incubator is owned by Umeå University Holding AB, Umeå municipality, Region Västerbotten and SLU Holding.

“Umeå is a city that always wants more and it is important for us to have stakeholders who will ensure the incubator has the strategic competence it needs to achieve our high goals. I was extremely happy when I heard the nomination committee’s proposals for these two new members and I am so grateful that they both said yes. Now the work of the board moving forwards will be even more fun,” says Jennie Ekbeck.
