Who? What? When? Where? How?

UBI supports life science projects from a very early stage onwards - from the so- called pre-seed financing at the proof-of-concept stage. We have the expertise, capability and facilities to support projects from most life science disciplines. Read on to find out how the process of becoming a UBI sponsored project works:

Have you got an idea?

Do you already have a concept about how to develop your scientific research into, for example, a diagnostic kit, a potential drug, or a methodological kit?

Or maybe your idea revolves around using your bench science applied to everyday articles or consumer products?

UBI could be the place where your idea comes to life.

Are you not quite there yet and still have a way to go? Are you about to publish something with commercial potential?

Whatever your situation, we would like to be in touch with you to discuss how we can support you in making the most of your research!

If you are interested you can also download an information folder on how we can help you to explore your scientific business idea.

How and when?

If you have a business idea, the first step in realizing its potential is to contact us, and describe the project to one of our business coaches. There is no need to worry about disclosing your ideas to us because everyone who works for UBI is bound by strict confidentiality.

If we consider that a project has the potential of developing into a UBI project and receiving support and financing, we arrange for a meeting with you so that we can get to know you, and get a better understanding of the business idea. Researchers and entrepreneurs may be given input and advice on aspects of their business idea which need investigating more thoroughly or addressing from a different angle.

As the business idea becomes more concrete, you (with guidance from our experts) can start preparing the plans regarding project activities and financing, which are needed in the application.

And once the business idea is fully defined, researchers can apply to be accepted as a project at UBI. At this point, you will be required complete an application form.

Upon submission, your application will be subjected to an internal review at UBI and you will be asked to present your project to a panel of reviewers. UBI's scientific board will make an evaluation based on the following criteria:

  • Good scientific quality
  • Market potential
  • Fit with the profile of UBI

The board will make its final decision of acceptance or rejection based on the recommendation of the scientific board. If your application is accepted, you will meet with UBI consultants to draft a detailed project plan with timelines and sign an agreement with UBI. You are then ready to start your activities at UBI.

Welcome to UBI!

Who can apply?

If you have an idea in the field of life science or an idea that requires wet laboratory space, UBI may be the place for both you and your idea to develop.
